Plan to Attend a Legislative Forum!

The LWVCR/M Legislative Forums are open to the public and held on Saturday mornings on the third Saturday of the month from 10:30 - 11:45 am while the legislature is in session.

The 2012 Legislative Forums will be January 21, February 18, March 17 and April 21 in the Hallagan Center at Mercy Medical Center.

The forums begin with each legislator sharing about they are working on this session. Legislators then respond to written questions from the audience about any area of legislation.

When the forum concludes the public is invited to visit with legislators individually. All 11 Linn County legislators are invited and most often, the all are in attendance. This is your opportunity to hear and question your state legislators about the current bills and issues before them. 







LWV Book Group:

This fall the book group read the book Half the Sky about female oppression and trafficking worldwide.  There is a micro loan program – EmpowHer – now available for women in Nigeria.  Women are given the equivalent of $66 as a loan towards implementing a small business (ie. charging cell phones, collecting and selling firewood, etc. etc.)   This program is helping Nigerian women move from poverty to productivity.  

Based on recent reading the LWV Book Group decided to donate $6 each to the EmpowHer micro loan program at the December meeting.
 
The January book will be The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver. The meeting will be January 27 at 12:30 pm  at the Marion Library.
